About Harlig Financials

Harlig Financials was founded on a simple idea:
financial advice should be thoughtful, independent, and built around the person—not products, institutions, or short-term noise.

Every financial decision connects to a larger life context. Careers evolve. Families grow. Opportunities arise. Uncertainty is inevitable. Good advice isn’t about predicting the future—it’s about helping people make clear, well-informed decisions that align with their goals, values, and time horizon.

That’s the kind of work this firm exists to do.

Harlig Financials is an independent, fee-based registered investment advisory firm. I work with individuals and families who value long-term thinking, disciplined decision-making, and advice that fits their life rather than a template.

A People-First Approach

At its core, this work is about people.

I genuinely enjoy working with others, listening, understanding what matters to them, and helping them think clearly about important financial decisions. Markets and strategies matter—but they only make sense when grounded in real lives.

My role is not to sell products or chase trends. It is to help clients navigate choices with context, structure, and perspective, especially when decisions feel complex or uncertain.

How I Think About Money

Outside of my professional background, I spend a significant amount of time thinking about investing, markets, risk, probability, and decision-making. I’m deeply interested in how financial choices play out over long periods of time and how people make decisions under uncertainty.

Investing today doesn’t happen in isolation. Markets are global, interconnected, and shaped by economic systems, culture, and human behavior. Having traveled to over 20 countries, I’ve developed a broader perspective on how people around the world think about money, risk, and long-term planning.

That lens informs how I approach financial decisions: with patience, structure, and humility about what we can and cannot control.

About Mendel Harlig

I founded Harlig Financials out of a genuine passion for financial decision making and working with people. Over time, I became deeply engaged in studying investing, markets, risk, and long term planning, developing a disciplined approach grounded in research, fundamentals, and patience. Through that process and conversations with others seeking clarity, I became convinced of the value of thoughtful, intentional financial decision making.

After earning a Juris Doctor (J.D.), a Master of Science in Finance (MSF), and a bachelor’s degree in economics, I spent more than five years in finance, working for large, publicly traded companies and supporting leadership on complex financial decisions.

While I valued my time in corporate finance, my true interest lies in investing and helping individuals think clearly about their long term financial goals. That interest inspired me to launch Harlig Financials, a firm focused on structured, long term financial planning grounded in each client’s life priorities, goals, and risk tolerance.

At Harlig Financials, every relationship begins with understanding your values, goals, and vision. My focus is not just on portfolios. It is on forming honest, long term relationships built on transparency and trust.

Personal Note

Outside of work, I’m passionate about martial arts, travel, and continuous learning. Whether exploring a new country or mastering a new skill, I approach everything with the same curiosity, discipline, and creativity that drive me to think outside the box—both in life and in investing.

Insurance Planning

When appropriate, I also assist with insurance planning as part of a broader financial strategy. This includes evaluating options across providers so recommendations are based on fit—not firm affiliation.

Insurance services are offered separately from investment advisory services and are designed to support long-term financial stability and risk management.
